How did reading change my life?
Reading is very impactful and is a great investment towards your own personal development. Have you ever heard of the term neuroplasticity? It is the brain's ability to restructure itself. Reading did change my life, and will proceed to, for as long as I continue absorbing new information. Taking care of your cognitive health is equally as important as taking care of your physical health. Train your mind just like you train your body. After all, you are what you think.
Reading the books that I read moulded my mindset. The more I read the more I started viewing the world differently. I became mentally equipped with great mental fortitude. The culmination of everything I read has created a mental arsenal that will help me in my trajectory. As I started applying what I read in my everyday life, I realized how invigorating it is to think in a healthy way. Again, I can't harp enough, you are what you think.
How to start reading consistently?
It takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit. The key to start reading consistently is to START. When I chose to pursue the goal of reading everyday, I set a fixed time of reading for 30 minutes. Having a set time in the beginning is crucial because you are introducing a new practice into your day. In fact, this will help condition your brain and consolidate the habit. In the beginning it may seem like a chore with no reward. However, if you stick with it, you will notice a big difference overtime. The"no time"excuse is a fallacy. Bill Gates stated that he reads about 50 books a year (1 book per week). If one of the busiest men in corporate America can do it, so can you. If you are serious about this, make this a priority in your day. I used to write in my planner each night, read for 30 minutes tomorrow. Gradually, I picked up momentum and reading everyday felt natural. Start now, your future self will thank you.
If you are interested in some of the books I read, I've created a page called "Recommended Reading"on my website. They are mostly positive psychology books. You can click the link here for easy access https://www.fitwithnada.com/re.
